Making it Through the Muddle

Motherhood is hard. Motherhood when you are struggling with mental illness feels impossible. But because you are a parent, life carries on a million miles an hour whether you like it or not. Making it through the muddle of my own thoughts and struggles is the hardest thing I have ever done. Here are some things that have helped me and will hopefully help you too!

I started this blog to give me a place to talk about what I was going through. Talking helps. Realising I wasn’t alone and lots of other people were facing the same challenges as me really helps! This blog started at ‘Kate Jemima Talks’ and the talk section is still what gets me through the darkest times. If you are feeling like you are the only one struggling, or feel like you are failing, please have a read through. You are not alone. We are in this together.

Talking is always my first step in mental health recovery. But as I start to feel the storm start to dissipate, there are lots of other ways I have learned to help me get back to me. You can read about some of my coping strategies that helped me focus on my own mental health. Self care is key to maintaining mental well-being. Make sure you do something nice for you today.

Despite feeling stuck in a fog, I still wanted to make sure my daughter was happy. I wanted to provide her with opportunities to learn and develop skills. When you are in a mental health crisis, it takes great motivation to do anything making parenting even harder. Drawing on my skills as a teacher, I developed activities that I knew were great for Boo, but also achievable and sometimes even enjoyable for me.

I also wanted to laugh and have fun some days too! Having a mental illness does not mean that you need to spend all of your time looking and feeling miserable.

I hope that you enjoy looking through my site and find something that helps you in some way. I love hearing from you so please leave a comment. If you would like to stay up to date with my latest posts, please subscribe and follow me on social media.
